Job Summary

The Wire Transfer Specialist’s primary responsibilities relate to processing incoming and outgoing wire transfers. Additional areas of responsibility include recording Fed funds trades, executing currency exchange for foreign wire transfers, and maintaining general ledger accounts.

Essential Functions

  1. Trains customers and employees on the GFX wire transfer system.
  2. Receives, reviews, and processes outgoing wiring instructions from customers, branches, and departments. Verifies the validity of these instructions, and initiates corrective action if needed.
  3. Receives, reviews, and processes incoming wire transfers via the GFX wire system. Verifies the validity of these wire transfers, and initiates corrective action if needed.
  4. Answers phone calls from employees and customers frequently throughout the day.
  5. Inputs outgoing wire transfer instructions received from various approved sources.
  6. Transmits outgoing wires, within authorized limits, to Federal Reserve via the GFX wire system.
  7. Calculates and executes the exchange of foreign currency at the request of the customer.
  8. Distributes wiring instructions to branches and departments. Notifies the branches, departments and customers of incoming wire transfers.
  9. Maintains a database of wire transfers. Maintains records which document wire transfer transactions.
  10. Monitors faxes and emails for wire transfer requests from other departments, branches, customers, and correspondent banks.
  11. Follows security and operational control procedures for the wire transfer systems.
  12. Prepares and balances wire transfer entries for processing by the Data Processing department.
  13. Prepares various spreadsheet and database reports according to prescribed schedules and procedures.
  14. Researches highly confidential wire transfer records in accordance with legal services. Provides research findings to the bank’s Process Unit.
  15. Analyzes and funds/draws available funds with upstream correspondent banks. May provide reports to downstream correspondent banks showing pending entries to their accounts held at the bank.
  16. Records and maintains accurate fed fund trade reports for upstream and downstream correspondent banks.
  17. Ability to work and adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and take on additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year related experience in banking; previous experience in wire transfer or Fed Funds preferred.
  • Experience with SWIFT messaging system preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task and produce error-free work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong attention to detail and high level of accountability.
  • Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems.
