Job Summary

This role will supervise the insurance premium processing functions, bank and other reconciliations, and accounts payable to assure accuracy, timely completion and compliance with company procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Daily Supervision of Premium Processing team, Reconciliations Specialist and Accounts Payable– approximately 7 employees
  • Oversee premium accounting payment entry, posting and deposit processes
  • Monitor customer billing processes and recommend changes
  • Monitor and confirm the ACH detail file and totals to ensure correctness of deposit
  • Process and post journal entries for manual accounts receivable entries
  • Work with banks to resolve issues including bank return items
  • Supervise reissuing of checks and payment reimbursements
  • Ensure stop pay and voided items are handled properly
  • Understand and enforce financial accounting controls and company policies; work with internal and external auditors
  • SOX compliance to include review and complete “PTD List” on a monthly basis; review and complete agent commission “Negative Balances List” for agent write-off on a monthly basis; and update templates, processes and narratives as needed due to system and procedural changes
  • Resolve problems in troubleshooting for all billing, premium accounting and commission issues to include responding to the Department of Insurance complaints
  • Analyze, recommend, modify and implement changes for billing, premium accounting and commissions; ensure impacts on commission related to premium issues are properly recorded
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Underwriting, Claims, and IT, including communicating systems issues.
  • Work with IT and bank to automate bank reconciliation process and move toward daily reconciliations for all accounts.
  • Work to conform payables processes to evolving holding company standards including vendor management policies.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of direct experience in accounting and/or accounting operations.
  • Previous accounting work experience in the property & casualty insurance industry strongly preferred.
  • Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets included in Microsoft Office products as well as custom applications and systems. Must have Intermediate Excel (i.e. familiarity with vlookups, pivot tables, etc.) and database skills.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with strong time management, organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels across the organization.
  • Must be highly self-motivated with strong initiative, accountability, and attention to detail with the ability to work with limited supervision
