Job Summary

The Corporate Accounts Payable Manager will lead the corporate accounts payable department for Hilltop Holdings (“Hilltop”) and will be primarily responsible for efforts to create and build a centralized payables function across the company and will be responsible for ongoing AP functions once the centralized function is implemented. Will work closely with Finance and Accounting leadership and support each line of business to anticipate and promptly respond to assigned financial accounting and reporting needs, as well as ensure that all policies and procedures are followed.

Essential Functions

  1. Direct and coordinate corporate accounts payable functions for all Hilltop entities, including business travel and expense reimbursement compliance and processing.
  2. Key team member in the development, implementation and maintenance of new systems, policies and procedures, including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines.
  3. Lead hiring efforts to support newly created corporate accounts payable department.
  4. Manage vendor relations and team members that handle all disbursements, information reporting, sales/use and other tax related matters.
  5. Lead research efforts, and coordinate with internal Tax department representatives, regarding sales/use tax rules and implications by jurisdiction using available tax research tools.
  6. Ensure timely communication and accuracy of month-end entries and internal reporting requirements.
  7. Assist Finance and Accounting leadership, project managers and operations staff; responds to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs in a timely manner.
  8. Act as a liaison between the company, government, and external accountants to meet information needs and to ensure that appropriate information is maintained for historical purposes.
  9. Train and evaluate employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product. Address performance issues and make recommendations for personnel actions.
  10. Work with Procurement team to monitor spending for adherence to budget and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  11. Maintain existing internal controls over financial reporting and work with others in the organization to periodically review, improve, and update key processes and related control descriptions.
  12. Prepare ad hoc analyses and perform other assignments as necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of education and relevant, progressive work experience required. Degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field strongly preferred.
  • 7 or more years of progressively challenging accounting experience with recent leadership experience. Financial Services industry experience a plus.
  • Experience with enterprise level (ERP) AP system preferred, as well as sales/use and information reporting experience
  • Strong PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products as well as various business solution and custom applications, systems, and software
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to analyze work product, systems and processes at a detailed level
