Job Summary

First Southwest Asset Management, Inc. (FSAM), a division of Hilltop Securities Inc., seeks a qualified and enthusiastic person to fill the multidimensional position of Investment Analyst/ Relationship Manager to begin work as soon as possible with the investment management group in the downtown Austin office. This position involves a number of different responsibilities and will require work in close quarters as part of a six-member team.  

Essential Functions

Responsibilities:

  • Create and/or update a number of reports/presentations in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Assist in responding to RFP’s; writing basic proposals
  • Assist in marketing FSAM services
  • Perform basic research on investment options
  • Maintain client contact info in Outlook (and/or other CRM system)
  • Monitor client portfolios, asset allocations, policy compliance, and investment maturities.
  • Make recommendations as appropriate, present to portfolio managers and/or clients.
  • Assist in analyzing security options for clients, eventually executing trades on behalf of clients
  • Understand client investment policy; maintain and update policies
  • Attend client meetings and present quarterly investment reports
  • Maintain and update client contract status
  • Monitor financial markets and participate in strategy discussions
  • Assist with inputing trades
  • Assist in writing up trade tickets
  • Assist in gathering economic data and news
  • Assist with client account set-up
  • Assist with client reporting process as needed
  • Monitor trade settlements and proactively resolve problems
  • Helping to edit write-ups and recommendations of co-workers
  • The person in this position may be groomed for a more expansive role to include modest travel
  • This is a small group; getting along is essential
  • Doing whatever it takes is part of the job
  • Must be a motivated self-started able to work with limited direction/supervision
  • Taking initiative, taking ownership, and following through is a highly valued characteristic

Job Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills, solid writing skills and a high degree of proficiency with Excel are required;
  • Experience with an investment management software program and/or Bloomberg Financial Markets are a plus;
  • Must be detail-oriented with good organizational skills and possess at least a fundamental understanding of fixed-income investments and an interest in, or desire to learn economics and financial markets;
  • Creativity in investment report design is highly desirable;
  • There will be ample opportunity to learn from experienced co-workers, but a successful candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to follow a project through to its conclusion.

Education:

A degree in finance, accounting, or mathematics is preferred, but not required; a minimum five years of work experience in a convincingly related field is required. If the new hire is not already licensed, the position will require that a Series 7 and 66 be obtained within the first 180 days.
