Job Summary

The Senior Financial Accountant will work closely with and be an important contributor within the corporate finance and accounting team. Will work closely with and support subsidiary corporate accounting functions, including the monthly accounting close, regulatory reporting and related reporting responsibilities. Responsible for maintaining accounting systems and internal controls to ensure that financial reports are prepared accurately, timely filed and comply with all applicable rules and regulations. To round out corporate accounting team of a diversified holding company, we seek an accountant with recent property & casualty insurance experience.

Essential Functions

  1. Prepares financial statements, including elimination of intercompany transactions.
  2. Responsible for reviewing Annual Statement, quarterly statements and other filings required by insurance regulatory authorities.
  3. Ensures timely completion of monthly accounting close tasks.
  4. Prepares and/or reviews numerous disclosures included in annual and interim filings for parent company reporting (SEC) and subsidiary regulatory filings, including documentation supporting disclosures and internal control.
  5. Prepares and/or reviews reconciliations of various general ledger accounts to supporting documentation.
  6. Maintains current documentation supporting internal control over financial reporting.
  7. Participates in annual audit and regulatory examinations.
  8. Prepares ad hoc analyses and completes other assignments as necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business/Financial Management or other closely related area required. Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5 or more years of progressively challenging accounting experience.
  • Property & Casualty industry experience required including experience with preparing Annual Statement (“yellow book”).
  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills required. Must have the ability to learn and utilize custom systems and applications. Experience with enterprise level (ERP) accounting systems a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to analyze work product, systems and processes at a detailed level
